Alexandre Rabinovitch-Barakovsky

Alexandre Rabinovitch-Barakovsky studied piano and composition at the Moscow Conservatory with Dmitri Kabalevsky and Alexander Pirumov. Early on, he turned away from the aesthetic dictates of the Soviet Union and created works based on texts by symbolist and futurist poets such as Andrei Bely and Velimir Khlebnikov. Inspired by Terry Riley, he developed an independent style within Minimal Music.

Since his emigration in 1974, Rabinovitch has lived in the West—initially in Paris, now in Geneva. As a pianist, he has enjoyed international success, including collaborations with Martha Argerich. His works have been performed at prestigious festivals such as the Biennale di Venezia, the Steirischer Herbst, and the MusikTriennale Köln.
